Responsibility
Responsible business is how we do business
Being commercially successful and operating responsibly is how we will generate sustainable returns for our shareholders and deliver on our purpose, to improve the quality of human life by helping people do more, feel better and live longer.
Trust is essential to how we deliver on our purpose. We have 13 commitments across three focus areas that support our Trust priority.
Our purpose is to help people do more, feel better, live longer
How we will report our performance
A summary of progress against our commitments can be found in our ESG Performance summary (PDF-2.9mb), and further detail can be found in our Annual Report (PDF-4.9MB).
Sustainable development
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out a vision for ending poverty, hunger, inequality and protecting the Earth’s natural resources by 2030. Realising this ambition will require private sector, governments and civil society to play their part and work together in new and innovative ways.
As a science-led global healthcare company Goal 3, Good Health & Wellbeing, is where we can make the most important contribution. The scale and nature of our business mean that we also contribute to a number of the UN’s goals through our everyday operations. For examples of how we contribute to the SDGs please download our SDG factsheet.

Our contribution to the SDGs
Our governance structure
Our Board-level Corporate Responsibility Committee (CRC) oversees our responsible business activities. It meets four times a year to provide high-level guidance and reviews performance against our commitments. Non-Executive Director, Lynn Elsenhans, is Chair of the CRC and both the Chairman and CEO are attendees.
Management of key non-financial risks is governed by our Audit and Risk Committee. The Audit and Assurance team supports this committee by providing an independent view to the Board and senior management of how risk is being managed across the business consistent with an agreed Assurance Plan.
Inclusion and diversity
We believe strongly in inclusion and diversity. Not only is it the right way to do business, but it also leads to business success – unleashing the enormous potential of the differing knowledge, abilities, experiences and styles of our people, and enhancing our ability to respond to the differing needs of our patients and consumers.
At GSK, we expect everyone to help create a fair and inclusive work environment where diversity and individuality are embraced, where everyone has a sense of belonging and can bring their best and most authentic selves to work.

Environment
In November 2020, we announced ambitious new environmental sustainability goals. By 2030, we aim to have a net zero impact on climate and a net positive impact on nature. Read more about our global environmental approach on our global website.
